Construction of new single span 25m long heavy duty bridge to carry an operational access road from the Clyde North Wind Farm over Camps Water, linking the northern and central sections of the site. Extensive earthworks and temporary works were required to gain access along extreme terrrain to the proposed permanent structure, with the additional installation of a temporary bailey bridge required to reach the far bank in order to build the abutment.
The main elements of the works included the following:
- Pollution prevention measure to avoid silting of the water course.
- Excavation to foundation horizon underlying north and south abutments and preparation of bank formation, including plate load testing of embankment fill.
- Track construction and otter fencing.
- Reinforced concrete abutments and wing walls.
- Lifting in of precast concrete beams with a 500 tonne crane.
- Installation of elastomeric bridge bearings.
- Asphaltic plug joints at each end of the bridge.
- In-situ concrete bridge deck placed on permanent GRC formwork which is laid between the precast beams.
- Formation of embankments and waterproofing prior to backfilling behind abutments and wing walls.
- Sprayed bridge deck waterproofing system and asphalt surfacing with 160 base course and 45 surface course.
- Installation of edge beam and N1 vehicle parapet.
- Verge infill concrete and edge kerb and new signs.
- Installation of duct hanger system below deck with services running through.
- Back of wall drainage and soakaways.
- Reinstatement of topsoil, seeding.
