Blackwell has now completed the reclamation and reinforced earth wall design and construct contract for Redrow Homes at the former stone quarry. The site is a mixed use development, with the area of the site reclaimed during our works being used for the housing plot.
Key Processes:
The main elements of the works include the following:
- Novation of Arup to act as our design consultant.
- Excavation of up to 98,000 cu.m of poor quality cohesive fill from within the shallow void and stockpile.
- Excavate and deposit approx 250,000 cu.m of marginal cohesive fill behind the proposed wall. Process this material if required by air drying / lime stabilisation and compact to 5% maximum air voids at 95% maximum dry density.
- Blend 25,000 cu.m of foundry sand with 50,000 cu.m of site won coarse granular to produce class 6I/6J for use in constructing the wall.
- Construct 36m high 45 degree reinforced earth slope using processed foundry sand. The wall is being constructed using geogrids and mesh provided by Huesker.
- Monitor settlement for 2 years following construction.
- On a separate site in Rugby excavate and screen 33,000 cu.m of material, haul foundry sand to Midland Quarry site and dispose offsite clay and other materials.
