SSE Renewables appoint Blackwell on Clyde

SSE Renewables appoint C A Blackwell (Contracts) Ltd as the first Main Contractor for Clyde Wind Farm

SSE Renewables, has appointed Blackwell as the main works contractor for the South Section of the Clyde Wind Farm.

Clyde Wind Farm, the largest single consented onshore Wind Farm in Europe with 152 turbines and a capacity of 350MW, is situated between Abington and Moffat, covering an area of 47.5 sq km. Blackwell  the first contractor to be appointed, will carry out the main work to complete the South section.
 

Steve Johnson, Associate Director, from Blackwell’s said, “We are delighted to have secured this prestigious contract and continue our involvement with SSE Renewables, on the Clyde scheme. We are looking forward to meeting the challenges of the scheme including substantial on site earthworks to construct over 30km of tracks, along with the batching and placing of 21,000 cu.m of concrete this year. The renewable energy sector is a key part of our business model and the award of this contract confirms our status as a major player in this market.” 

Brian McFarlane, Construction Project Manager, from SSE Renewables said, “We are pleased to announce the appointment of Blackwell’s to carry out the work on the South Section.  Depending on the weather, it is intended that work will commence in earnest over the next couple of weeks, with our expectation that the first turbine will be erected and producing energy by the end of the summer this year.”
