Blackwell have been providing HS2 Ltd with earthmoving advice and support since 2012 during both the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Hybrid Bill stages, as a sub-consultant to Professional Services Consultants, Atkins and Mott MacDonald.

In the summer of 2018 Blackwell entered into an exclusive strategic partnership with the Main Works Civils Contractor, the Eiffage-Kier (EK) Joint Venture, for the C2 and C3 sections of Phase 1 to develop the earthmoving strategy for this 80km stretch of the proposed route. It is expected that the partners will continue to develop this strategy and their delivery model and arrangements in 2019 prior to earthmoving commencing in earnest in 2020.

Blackwell are currently undertaking a large proportion of the earthworks on the A14 widening and improvement scheme near Cambridge. Working for a JV client comprising of Balfour Beatty, Skanska and Costain, Blackwell have deployed over 100 people and associated items of earthmoving plant into the scheme which should be complete in 2020. Blackwell are tendering for similar Highways England projects across the UK.

Blackwell have a significant, and ongoing, mining contract at the Hemerdon Tungsten mine near Plymouth. Over a 5 year period Blackwell equipment, and operators, will handle circa 50 million cubic metres of materials relating to the extraction and processing activities at the site. This is a state of the art mining operation and will continue to be a key project in the future.
