Major Earthworks Projects

Blackwell is one of the leading earthworks contractors in the UK. We work in partnership with many of the major civil engineering contractors to deliver major infrastructure projects across the transportation sector.

Blackwell is currently engaged with Skanska, Costain and Balfour Beatty on the A14 widening scheme in Cambridgeshire and was recently appointed as strategic earthworks partner by Eiffage and Kier for large sections of HS2.

Mines and Quarries

Blackwell provides outsourced plant operations to the mines and quarries sector. Blackwell will also undertake project management and engineering services associated with these operations.

Blackwell is currently engaged by Wolf Minerals to provide a comprehensive dig and haul operation at its’ Hemerdon Tungsten mine near Plymouth which will become the largest mineral extraction project in the UK.

Soils Treatment and Remediation

Through its subsidiary, Geofirma Soils Engineering Limited, Blackwell is one of the leading contractors in the soils stabilisation market and provides innovative solutions to many construction projects. Additionally, Geofirma carries out the remediation of brownfield sites where it develops earthworks and treatment strategies to enable the future development of otherwise contaminated sites.

Plant & Equipment

Blackwell operates one of the largest fleets of construction and mining equipment in the UK. We constantly invest in, and evolve, our fleet to ensure that it meets our clients’ requirement and achieve the highest specifications in terms of safety and efficiency.

Blackwell Plant provides all mobile plant requirements for operations across the Hargreaves Group. Primarily these activities include mining, major earthworks, construction and industrial processes. Our plant fleet includes dump trucks ranging in size from 20t to 100t and excavators from 30t to 300t. We also operate all sizes of dozers, graders and wheeled loading shovels.

Upon the completion of projects, or renewal of certain items, Blackwell will sell its surplus plant either direct to end users or via reputable plant auctions.
